Shot on an iPhone 12 Pro Max, using portrait mode > stage lighting, with little or no image manipulation,
these delightfully powerful images show just a little of the diversity of plants in that glorious country garden.

Roses were mum’s favourite, and I could probably fill multiple calendars with the many varieties she grew; however the colours and vibrance of all the other flowers were just as important to her.

I hope you enjoy this collection throughout the year, and please, take a little time out occasionally to stop
and smell them roses.

Life And Love Endures

I photographed these unusual fungi some time after a bush fire on Fraser Island many years ago.
From the charred timber, the unstoppable power of nature springs to life, manifesting as these beautiful little life-forms.

They have emerged, unaware that they were born of a devastating event.

But not all life recovers as easily. Bushfires are very destructive, and we humans put up a fight, regularly, trying to halt or slow the fires’ menacing progress.
It takes a certain kind of person to risk their own life to help save others.

You can help fund these much-needed legends in the Rural Fire Brigades around Australia.

Rural fire Brigades are generally run and manned by volunteers and desperately need your support.

LIFE AND LOVE ENDURES

Bushfires are devastating. They seem to destroy almost everything in their path.

But mother nature is strong. She hides away and when the time is right, she emerges again, as strong as ever.

Even in the darkest times, when all seems lost to forces we cannot control, life endures.

Springing from the most unexpected places. Love is the same.

When things seem dire and you feel unloved, be assured it is only a matter of time, when love will emerge and grow strong again.

This beautiful image, enhanced, but not manipulated, is a glorious tribute to the power of love and life.

Now, as a personal tribute to those among us who fight the destructive power of fire and, who find themselves exhausted and sometimes lifeless, I would like to show gratitude and support to those men and women. So I will share the proceeds from the sales of this picture and donate them to the rural fire services.

Photographed many years ago this piece still evokes the feeling that this simple flower is trying to say something. Trying to whisper something. Maybe even trying to blow us a kiss.

The sweet and pure beauty of the common camellia.

Her soft white petals open wide, layer by layer in the warming sunlight, revealing gentle whispers from within.

She sings a song in soft-scented harmony with her petaline cupping, a song not heard, but smelt.

Her sweet perfume brings forth a smile on the face of her spectator as she blows a fragrant kiss.

Help Save The Black Swans

After seeing my picture of a pelican on Lake Orr, in Varsity Lakes, on the Gold Coast (aus), a wonderful woman, Marina, contacted me and commissioned me to do a drawing of ‘Poppy’ the black swan. As you will read in the artist’s statement, Poppy was injured by a shark in the lake and later passed away due to the severity of the injuries. Marina works for ‘Wildcare’, an organisation that rescues and rehabilitates sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife. They do a fantastic job but they need our help with funding for medical supplies and the like. This is where you come in. By purchasing a print of any size, framed or unframed, we will donate the profits from all sales to Wildcare on your behalf. A TRIBUTE TO ‘POPPY’ THE BLACK SWAN

This piece comes with a heavy heart.

This is one of the beautiful Black Swans that grace Lake Orr’s shores, Varsity Lakes, Gold Coast, Australia. Sadly, in late November 2023, Poppy, as she was affectionately known, was injured by a Bull Shark, which are prevalent in the lake. Locals rushed her to the local veterinary surgeon, but sadly she could not be saved.

So, in loving memory of Poppy, seen here with two of her four cygnets, the proceeds from the sale of prints of this artwork will be donated to a Wildcare to help save the Black Swans under threat from many things.

GUARDING THE VATICAN

On our trip to Italy in 2015, we were queuing for hours to get into St. Paul’s Cathedral.
While waiting patiently I glance into the shadows of one of the entrances to The Vatican and saw this guard, standing perfectly still.
Not moving a muscle or batting an eyelid as the crowds outside were pushing and shoving, trying to progress the long line.
The self-discipline of this man was incredible.
Just performing his duty I guess.

I love the juxtaposition of the colourful, almost jester-like uniform, against the cold stone background of the long corridor.

HUMANITY

Humans see beauty and grace in the natural world.

We marvel at things that for us, seem impossible to achieve or replicate.

So, in an effort to prove ourselves – to who knows who or what – we study, analyse and copy those miracles of nature.

We succeed.

But then something weird happens.
Pride and other destructive human conditions come into play.

Instead of sharing, we lay false claims to our discoveries and try to take ownership of them.

Then, when conflicts arise, we weaponise them and turn those new-found technologies against each other, ultimately destroying the world that gave them to us in the first place.

The Insanity Of Humanity

An ekphrastic poem by The Artist Trebor

The word ekphrasis, or ecphrasis, comes from the Greek for the written description of a work of art produced as a rhetorical or literary exercise, often used in the adjectival form ekphrastic.
It is a vivid, often dramatic, verbal description of a visual work of art, either real or imagined.
Thus, “an ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art.”

HUMANITY

We claim to be the dominant animal.
We feel the desire to climb higher,
to stand taller on that self-proclaimed pedestal.
We think we are the aces of the places
of our world, the land, the seas, even the skies
where we reside beside
Mother Nature’s beauty and graces.
We believe we are wise to rise
and strive to mimic such majesty.

We are never content, so we lament.
We ponder. We observe and invent
contraptions that are clunky copies
or those worldly physical interactions.
Copies of the fundamentals, the incidentals,
which are actually instrumental
to the evolution of our dreams
that foresee a future reliant on machines.
A future that will improve our existence
with less resistance
from that which we perceive as tragedy

Take flight as an example.
The eagle soars majestically, effortlessly.
It does not need to scramble.
It has ample sky, space and time
to amble and still fulfil its primal needs.
In times past a select few were mesmerised
hypnotised, then realised and believed
the re-creation of flight can be achieved.
Flight was no longer a mystery.
Those humans are noted in history.

But the human mind plays tricks and games,
urging us to pursue glory and fame,
so we apply those discoveries of innocence
to battles of offence, defence and consequence.
We weaponise without regard or compromise
to elevate what we internalise as superiority
and achieve what we delusionally call authority
over the chaos that is
WAR

‘Ah-Ha! we now have an advantage.
We have the upper hand.
We can take control so let’s forget the toll
we pay in terms of lives lost. It’s a small cost
compared to the gains”. But what remains?
We sink into a deep depression, a recession.
The victorious impression is a short-lived addition
as we struggle to rebuild our society,
our culture, with all its traditions.
This.
All in the name of peace.
