Sea Jellies

Nature’s diversity flourishes in myriad ways both on land and in the sea.
That natural beauty can be friend, foe or just plain freaky.

Think of Jellyfish. Do your thoughts immediately jump to the Irukandji or Box-Jellyfish?
Then pause for a moment and realise that those are just two of the hundreds of species of Jellyfish found in the waters around Australia and, the thousands of species found worldwide.

Jellyfish developed over 500-700 million years ago and now present themselves in a multitude of shapes, colours and diversifications.

‘Sea Jellies’ are abstract expressions of that diversity. They take on a life of their own swaying and moving in the breeze as if caught in the tides and currents of the sea. 

At night they light up showing off their pseudo bioluminescence in a rainbow of colours.

Mightier

This sculpture is a fully hand made, one-of-a-kind and comes with a ‘Certificate of Authentication’ as well as a copy of the ‘Artist’s Statement’.

Materials: Corian Stone, Aluminium, Brass, Wood and Paint. It was designed for outdoors but would weather better if placed indoors. Size: 200mm x1200mm x 1800mm

Ironically ‘WORDS’ is an anagram of ‘SWORD.’

History records an Assyrian Sage, Ahiqar, in 500BC coined a phrase in his early teachings,
“The word is mightier than the sword.”

Later, in 1839AD, English writer Edward Bulwer-Lytton lays claim to writing a line in his play ‘Richelieu: Or The Conspiracy’ “The PEN is mightier than the sword.”

No matter where the saying originated it will forever hold true. The written word is far more effective than violence as a tool for communicating one’s point of view.

Literary text has the power to influence, change or reinforce our perceptions of our world.

Beware though. All that is written is not true so again, ironically, comradery or conflict arises.
