I photographed these unusual fungi some time after a bush fire on Fraser Island many years ago.
From the charred timber, the unstoppable power of nature springs to life, manifesting as these beautiful little life-forms.

They have emerged, unaware that they were born of a devastating event.

But not all life recovers as easily. Bushfires are very destructive, and we humans put up a fight, regularly, trying to halt or slow the fires’ menacing progress.
It takes a certain kind of person to risk their own life to help save others.

Nature’s diversity flourishes in myriad ways both on land and in the sea.
That natural beauty can be friend, foe or just plain freaky.

Think of Jellyfish. Do your thoughts immediately jump to the Irukandji or Box-Jellyfish?
Then pause for a moment and realise that those are just two of the hundreds of species of Jellyfish found in the waters around Australia and, the thousands of species found worldwide.

Jellyfish developed over 500-700 million years ago and now present themselves in a multitude of shapes, colours and diversifications.

‘Sea Jellies’ are abstract expressions of that diversity. They take on a life of their own swaying and moving in the breeze as if caught in the tides and currents of the sea. 

At night they light up showing off their pseudo bioluminescence in a rainbow of colours.

After seeing my picture of a pelican on Lake Orr, in Varsity Lakes, on the Gold Coast (aus), a wonderful woman, Marina, contacted me and commissioned me to do a drawing of ‘Poppy’ the black swan. As you will read in the artist’s statement, Poppy was injured by a shark in the lake and later passed away due to the severity of the injuries. Marina works for ‘Wildcare’, an organisation that rescues and rehabilitates sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife. They do a fantastic job but they need our help with funding for medical supplies and the like. This is where you come in.
